Cycle 1 Finished

Cycle 1 Finished

The last 24 hours have been pretty difficult for Stine. Her fatigue is greater and her taste has changed so that many foods are bitter- including the Soylent. This is making the nutritional aspect more difficult. Thankfully, her sensitivity to cold is starting to wear off though, so she can now drink room-temperature water (she was really beginning to hate tepid drinks).  The rash is gone and she has no lockjaw.

We removed the 5-FU pump in the afternoon so I am hoping the short-term symptoms will begin subsiding.  We will also try cutting off the Zofran tonight and just staying with the scopolamine.

Overall, she is feeling pretty weak and can’t venture out of bed very far. Her right arm is tingling and the middle finger occasionally begins twitching with it’s own mind.  It is the birdie finger, but I am not taking it personally.  Applying a hot-pad appears to bring relief though.

This afternoon Bertrand, Kathleen, and Emily dropped by and left a nice keto dinner, coloring book, and relaxation music.

So, the good news is we have finished cycle 1 and now should get a recovery period of 12 days before cycle 2. We have learned a lot that might make the next cycle slightly easier- but the fact is it will always suck. But as they say in the military, we need to “Embrace the Suck”- just have to deal with it and grind through the best we can.
