Slow Recovery in Cycle 2
Just like last cycle, today was better than Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was the toughest, but I spent most of the day on the couch on Sunday as well. Today has still been mostly horizontal, but I have been walking around more and had less waves of feeling really unwell. I managed to eat two meals by the table and I helped out making dinner – and made some bread.
The soreness in my calfs is gone. Both yesterday and today I walked around the block without much effort. It’s pretty windy today and the lab glasses are super handy. My eyelids just get a little bit twitchy from the wind – nothing like last time. I sill get an occasional claw hand when I have used cold water on my hands for too long or used a touch pad without enough breaks. The cold sensitivity is still there – and annoying – but not too bad.
What I have been struggling with the most the last two days is a thorough dislike of food. Even the thought of most foods makes my stomach turn. I’m still a little bit queasy, but what is putting me off food is the terrible flavor I have in my mouth. Poor James is trying his best to make food for me that I want to have – and sneak in some protein – it’s not a lot of protein in fruit. Foods that I normally love tastes horrible. Today I was crying while forcing myself to drink yet another Soylent – with James worried watchful eyes on me. However I did throughly enjoy pork chops and sautéed beans and rice for dinner. A life saver today were two bags of licorice (lakrisbåter) from Eli and her family that arrived in the mail from Norway. I was so happy that I started crying – again. You guys know me so well. Thank you!
Last night we decided that James was going to do a smart move by going really early to the grocery store – and so did half of Carlsbad. What met all of them were nearly empty shelves. He got some of what was on the list. We’ve also ordered groceries to be delivered on Friday – it will be interesting to see if they can actually deliver what we have ordered. Everything that we get in the house we leave in the garage in quarantine for three days and we clean the surface of the items we put in the fridge. Perhaps over the top cautious, but no way am I risking getting infected by this thing.
So perhaps I too am a little like our groceries, needing three days to recover. At least I don’t have to sleep in the garage.
